LATEST NEWS FROM THE SIX METRE CENTER OF XCELLENCE!
Monday, the 18th of April, 2011.
In a week from now our first Six Metre will hit the water, Marilyn fixed for racing, followed by Scylla, ex Jungfrun, ex Scylla, and Notorious (both yachts totally new painted and updated) the first half of May, some week after that a new born Evelina will be introduced for her element.
As soon as Scylla or Jungfrun is floating we will start training every Wednesday and Saturday, with the kind help of Ystad Yacht Club. On the 28th of May there will be a match-racing event in Ystad harbor with the Center Sixies and on the 2nd of July all our boats are doing a one day distance race eastward to Simrishamn, having a nice after sail dinner, then back to Ystad the next day racing. Marilyn is going to have media / TV aboard in order to market the Moderns in Sweden!
On the schedule are courses for ladies and youths, and right now there is a marketing email sent to 3000 companies in the region to do event sailing with Sixies!
We are pleased to have two very keen gentlemen from the region looking for a Six Meter to be raced here in the South, a fifth Modern would be great. Discussions about the Modern number six is on, let´s see were we end up!
Last but not least we are proud to announce the born of the group “ 6 Metre International “ on Facebook! We have over 400 Six Metre sailors / friends of the Class through out the world, please join. History, Rules, pics, constructions, plans, half models, discussions, well, everything that concerns our great Class from Classics to Moderns! Through this group we are also trying to get the Russians interested in the Class, if You have contacts, please let us know, Russia has a great sailing potential and would most certainly vitaminize the Modern Class, very much welcomed.The Class will be promoted at the St Petersburg boat show by a friend of the Class in Russia!
An “archive” website is under construction, thus giving us a place to have everything about the International and Scandinavian Rules about the Six Metre Class all the way from 1907 and updated! More to come on this issue when the site is ready to open!

Latest News from The Fleet in Ystad 19.10.2010.
It is with great pleasure we inform that The John Bauer Gymnasium in Ystad has accepted to start working on a Sailing Gymnasium in Ystad with the 6 Metre Class as a platform for sailing! At this stage the various courses have to be planned including yachtdesign and aerodynamics, economics, marketing, entrepreneurship and nautical culture and history. The Saling Gymnasium has to be approved by the Swedish School Agency and we have set the start date to August 2012.
Peter Norlin has promised to be engaged in yachtdesign and aerodynamic courses and our goal is to have a top Gymnasium with highly motivated youths within this field of education giving them a life long learning, fun and working opportunity.
The 6 Metre Center of Xcellence will assist with The 6 Metre Fleet in Ystad and with the experience the Fleet´s sailors have.
The Sailing Gymnasium in Ystad is very much apploaded by The Skåne Sailing Association.
We also welcome very much the re-entering to Sweden by Marilyn, SWE 101, and wish her new owner Mr Ola Tedin very much welcome to the Fleet. Marilyn´s new home is Ystad. Ola and Marilyn will play an active role within youth sailing in Ystad and he has also registered Marilyn for the World´s in Helsinki 2011. Nice to see the Swedish Modern Fleet grow again.
In February 2011 we start marketing event racing with our Fleet. This is made in co-operation with The Old Water Tower in Ystad. The main goal is to have fun and get some excitement, but also from our perspective to market the Class in The South of Sweden and Denmark. The Fleet will be located at Ystad Yacht Club and we are very greatful for all their kind efforts with the Fleet, we appreciate it very much and look forward co-operating with them in the years to come!
On the day of Lucia, the 13 of December, and if the weather allows, we are going to have a show race in the harbour of Ystad, why don´t You join us for some 6 Metre on the rock´s?
We have been talking with owners of Moderns and right know four Swedish Moderns and one German are interested in coming to Ystad during april-june to tune up for the Helsinki WC. The mere thought of having 9 Moderns at the Marina training for Helsinki is really exciting. You are also invited!!!!

Latest news from the 6 mR fleet in The Öresund Region
We are pleased to announce that the 6 mR Center of Xcellence hosted by The Sail, Design and Fun Foundation is starting it´s activity in Limhamn, Malmö.
The Center offers sailing, training, and racing with Modern Sixies for adults and youths, and also NPD youths (Neuro Psycholigical Disfunction). The aim is to encourage more youths to sailing and of course also to get more and younger Six Metre sailors to the fleet. The Center hopes that it will have two youth crews in the WC´s and EC 2011-13 and Peter Norlin is invited to act as helmsman on SWE 133 Jungfrun with one of the crews.
The youth training is starting in August.
The Center cooperates with The Mitten University in Sweden on doing reseach on how sailing could influence and develope the NPD youths and Skånes Sailing Association offers two sail coaches for youth training.
The 6 mR Center of Xcellence is also arranging 1-2 times a year conferences on aerodynamis, design, material and tactics and Professor Dan Zenkert from The Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm is invited to speak about materials. Futher more the youths will be informed about the Metre Rule and it´s history, successful yacht designers, and yacht clubs and culture.
The basis for the Center is Limhamn and Malmö Yahct Club.
The Center is also proud of including three of Peter Norlin´s designs to the fleet, that is Swe 114 Notorious, SWE 133 Jungfrun and SWE 134 Evelina. The aim is to have six Modern Sixies totaly included shortly.
The 6 mR Center of Xcellence is managed by Douglas and Kristina Reincke and Anders Brinnen.
We invite You all to encourage youths all over the world to take part in the Center activities, enjoy and be trained in Six Metre sailing and be a part of the International Six Metre world, it´s a life long enjoyment! And of course everyone that want´s to do some Six Metre sailing in The Öresund Region is welcome!

INVITATION
Dear Friends of Six Metres,
On behalf of the Öresund Six Metre Fleet I invite You to race in Malmö in May 22-23 at the Malmö Segelsällskap´s (Malmö Yacht Club) Keel Boat Regatta.
This is the first time for decades the Six Metre Class is racing in Malmö and we look forward to a great event. We will sail 2 races on Saturday and one on Sunday, both classics and moderns on the same course. Saturday evening is for social activities and dinner.
We have already two entries from Denmark and two from Sweden and we do hope to see 10-12 Sixies on starting line thus opening a new era for the Class in the Öresund Region.
We will of course assist You in any way needed, hotel bookings, etc. We also attache our info from the ISMA News.
The Öresund Six Metre Fleet is looking forward to race against You in the waters outside Malmö!

NEWS JANUARY 2010:
6 Metre activities in The Öresunds Region in the South of Sweden
The interest for sailing Sixies is increasing in the Region and we have 12-15 nice sailors that would like to start racing outside Malmö. Though, we need more boats and hope that at least two more modern boats would be bought to the region before next summer.
After discussions with Malmö Segelsällskap, MSS (MalmöYacht Club) they kindly offered to start the Sixies in their Keel Boat Regatta 22-23 May 2010, to which we hope to see classics and modern Sixies from nearby countries, and of course a lot of boats from Stockholm.
During the season we are planning to have four week-end regattas, either fleet or match-race, and by the end of the season (end of September) race in Copenhagen at The Copenhagen Metre Yacht Cup arranged by the Danish Twelves and The Royal Danish Yacht Club. Last year was a success!

We have discussed preliminary about having the modern boats standing in their craddles in Limhamn, MSS has an 8 ton crane.
